Lucy Mayberry BARBER Cole, Dictated by her father Capt Levi BARBER, and copied by her great grand daughter Linda Jean ENGLE Lackore Summer 2000:
"The first settlers of Simsbury Connecticut came from Windsor Connecticut. A very large proportion of the inhabitants as late as 1845 can trace their ancestry to that small flock who under the pastoral charge of the Rev Mr Warham left England in 1630 and after remaining a short time in Dorchester Massachusetts near Boston removed in the fall of 1635 and spring of 1636 to Windsor Connecticut.
"There were four brothers (sons of Samuel Barber - 3rd Generation) who removed from the old parish (Windsor in 1738 to Simsbury and lived in that portion of it now called Canton, in Hartford County Connecticut) viz Samuel, Thomas, Johnathan, and John Barber, (all) of whom purchased land and lived contiguous to each other.
"Dr Samuel Barber had fourteen children, eleven sons and three daughters, all of whom lived to adult years. He resided on the premises occupied in 1845 by his grandson, Volney G Barber. He died in Jan 1797 aged 83 years. His wife's name was Tryphena Humphrey who died in Jan 1752 aged 32 years, and was the first white person buried in the limits of Canton. The burying ground was given to the town by her brother-in-law, Joseph W Wilcox who was the second person buried there."

Linda Jean ENGLE: "3rd Generation of Barber in America. Lucy Cole Flemming's handwriting says Samuel Barber died in 1722 mar 18 Jun 1713 to Martha Ponder who died (probably) 6 Aug 1758. Their son: Ezekiel born 25 Sep 1721. This data is in conflict with all else listing Sarah Holcomb."
