BOOKS Pedigree of Lawrence Compiled from Heralds' Visitations, Inquisitions Post Mortem, Deeds, Charters, Wills, Parish Registers, and other Original Manuscripts H G Somerby Esq Boston CS71.L42 1856: "Thomas Lawrence of Rumburgh, in Suffolk; made his will July 17, 1471: owned lands in Rumburgh, South Elmham, Spettishall, Wisset, Holton, etc. Son: "John Lawrence, of Rumburgh. Will dated July 10, 1504, in which year he died and was buried in the church. Married Margery; died in 1507, and was buried by the side of her husband."
A Genealogical Memoir of the Families of Lawrences with a Direct Male Line from Sir Robert Lawrence of Lancashire AD 1190 down to John Lawrence of Watertown AD 1636, Mercy Hale, Boston, 1856, p3: "According to the pedigree of the Lawrences of Ashton Hall, in Lancashire, Sir Robert Lawrence, a descendant of the above, had three sons- Nicholas, of Ayercroft, was the third. This Nicholas was the father of seven sons, of which John was the fourth, and under his name is written, 'from this John, are descended the Lawrences of Suffolk.' "John, dying in 1461, left a son; Thomas, of Rumburg, in Suffolk, who made his will in 1471, and died the same year, leaving John, his eldest son, an heir to the estates in Rumburg, South Elmham, Spettishall, Wisset, and Holton. "This John, in his will, dated 1504, desires to be buried in the church of Rumburg- gives to divers orders of friars, to the poor of several towns and villages, and places certain property in the hands of his wife. 'She, to dispose them to the plesure of God and for the helthe of my soule, my friends' soules, and our benefactors' soules.'"
