Ed Griesbaum 27 Jun 2001 Letter
"Well, I've solved the mystery of the gravesites but not to our satisfaction. On Tuesday last I went to New St Marcus Cemetery and this time the office was open. The lady there was most cooperative and after looking through five or six ancient records, she finally discovered the cards which she copied and are enclosed.
"The answer is that these persons remain buried in OLD St Marcus Cemetery because they did not have perpetual care and were abandoned. The block and grave numbers I had are the numbers in Old St Marcus. The map enclosed is of Old St Marcus.
"I then went to Old St Marcus and wandered from one end to the other. It's all grass and a few trees plus perhaps two dozen grave markers, mostly huge, still remaining. There also is a new wall incorporating maybe fifty gravestones, but none of them pertained to the Blaetz's.
"The Blaetz family remains at peace, unmarked, covered with lush grass. I guess that's the end of the story."

Database: Brandenburg, Prussia Emigration Records
Description:
A province of the Prussian Empire, Brandenburg in the 1800s stretched from the Elbe River to beyond the Oder River into modern Poland. This database, newly updated, is a collection of records kept by the government regarding persons emigrating from the province in the nineteenth century. Each record provides the emigrant's name, age, occupation, residence, destination and year of emigration. Part of an ongoing project, it now contains the names of over 17,500 persons. Taken from microfiche copies of records kept at the main archive in Potsdam (Brandenburgisches Landeshauptarchiv Potsdam), copies are held by the Family History Library in Salt Lake City. For researchers of German ancestors, this can be a helpful source of information.
Extended Description:
Sources of this information: Brandenburgishes Landeshauptarchiv Potsdam, Auswanerungskartei. FHL fiches: #6109219 (22 Fiches total).
Beginning in 1810 records were kept by the main archive in Potsdam (Brandenburgisches Landeshauptarchiv Postdam). Most emigrants left to North America (Nord-Amerika), but few also left to Australia, Netherlands, Austria, and Russia. Only those having received permission to leave are listed.
The province of Brandenburg included 44 Kreise (counties). The first part of the project involves emigrants from the following Kreise: Arnswalde, Calau, Frankfurt a./O, Friedeberg i./Neum., Stadtkreis Guben, Landkreis Guben, Koenigsberg, Landkreis Landsberg, Lebus, Lichtenberg, Luckau Sorau, Spremberg, Sternberg and Zuillichau or Schwiebus.
