"Nathaniel Foote 3rd, was Quartermaster and took active part in the `Great Falls Fight,' May 1676. Residencies were Springfield and Hatfield, Mass, Stratford, Branford, Colchester and Wethersfield, Conn.
"He was a man of considerable iminence, distinction and influence- a leading man of his day."
Genealogy of Bliss Family in America, Vol I, p41: "Mar Margaret Bliss, 2 May 1672, Springfield. Mr. Foote was Quartermaster in the Army during King Phillip's War and was in the fight at Turner's Falls (Connecticut River) under the brave Captain Turner, who, it is said, that night fought hand to hand with Phillip himself. The next day Capt. Turner and most of his men were killed by Indians and Mr. Foote, though badly wounded, was one of the few who escaped. Died 12 Jan 1703 of consumption."
