Mrs Kelly St Clair

NEWSPAPER Marietta Register Wednesday 29 Aug 1894 Judge St Clair Kelly, one of St Clairsville's most highly esteemed citizens was in town Saturday [Wheeling Intelligencer 27 Aug 1894] Judge St Clair Kelly is one of the best lawyers in Eastern Ohio, as the Supreme Court of the State will attest. He is so modest and retiring that he is almost 'unknown to fame'. Judge Kelly's father was St Clair Kelly, the first child born in Marietta after the settlement in 1788. He died at Parkersburg in the sickly season of 1823 and his gravestone may still be seen in the old graveyard, near the B&O Railroad, a short distance easterly from the depot at Parkersburg. His widow married a Methodist minister named Merriman, and not many years ago was still living with her son, Judge Kelly (who is a bachelor) at St Clairsville. RMS
